We are seeking an experienced and passionate leader to join us as General Manager for Surgical Oncology within the Cancer & Surgery Clinical Group. This role covers specialist surgical services including Thoracic Surgery, Head & Neck Surgery, Breast & ENT. The successful candidate will work closely with clinical and operational teams to deliver constitutional standards, lead elective and cancer improvement plans, and manage the Directorate’s financial performance including in-year improvement plans and sustainable financial change.

The Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group is one of the largest in the Trust, delivering a diverse portfolio of secondary and tertiary services. This is a key leadership role requiring the ability to influence and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to monitor performance and transform service delivery.

Requirements

Experience
- Demonstrable success in delivering change and performance through management teams by engaging them in strategic direction and delivery plans.
- Proven track record of managing risk while maintaining high standards of service delivery.
- Experience developing business plans and managing programmes/projects resulting in positive value for money outcomes.
- Evidence of successful strategic and operational performance management, including business case preparation, service initiation, contract negotiation, and monitoring outcome and output measures.

About you
- Strong leadership, interpersonal skills, and authority with the ability to foster and manage relationships across Directorates.
- Excellent organisational, resource, and staff management skills, able to forecast, plan, and develop unit capability aligned with business plans.
- Proven ability to manage change effectively within an operational environment, building engagement and rewarding innovation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Credible and influential communicator with excellent networking and negotiating skills.
- Ability to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to enable successful partnership working.

Qualifications
- Relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification.
- Understanding of the changing NHS environment and its challenges.
