About the Role
The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK through its work on counter-terrorism, policing, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports. The Corporate Services Group supports the department’s priorities by working closely with policy and operational commands, comprising teams such as Commercial, Communications, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Private Office, Security, Estates and Information.
The Communications Directorate delivers some of the UK's highest-profile public communications, reaching millions weekly through social, digital, media and campaign activity.
We are seeking an exceptional creative leader to shape the Home Office and Home Secretary's social media presence and lead one of government’s most ambitious in-house creative teams. You will oversee a talented team of videographers, photographers, designers and animators, setting the creative vision for content that informs and engages national audiences about Home Office priorities.
This is a rare opportunity to combine the pace and creativity of a modern social-first operation with the reach and impact of one of the UK's largest government departments. You will drive audience growth, lead innovative content strategies, and create work that shapes national conversations and is seen by millions across the country.
As Head of Content, you will lead a multi-disciplinary creative team to deliver best-in-class social media content, maintaining the highest editorial and production standards while pushing creative boundaries. Sitting on the digital senior leadership team and reporting to the Head of Digital, you will translate strategy into effective creative output that drives audience growth, engagement, behaviour change and public trust.
This hands-on leadership role involves setting the creative vision, shaping ideas from concept to delivery, directing production, and building systems to deliver consistently high-performing content at scale. You will lead content across Home Office channels with over 2.3 million followers, driving growth on priority platforms including YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
From major announcements and reactive news moments to innovative social-first storytelling, you will ensure content is audience-focused, platform-native and impactful. Working closely with Ministers, Special Advisers and senior officials, you will help shape how one of the UK's most important departments engages with the public, influencing national conversations every day.
Key responsibilities include leadership and development of the creative team, delivering a scalable creative content strategy aligned to departmental priorities, optimising content for social media platforms, managing Ministerial content pipelines, providing creative direction across all outputs, leading rapid response content production, building strategic partnerships, and embedding a data-driven culture to inform content decisions.
Due to business requirements, this role is full-time and requires flexible working, including out-of-hours support for reactive news moments, Ministerial visits, filming opportunities and major announcements. Regular UK-wide travel, including occasional overnight stays and overseas travel, is required with costs reimbursed in line with Home Office policy.

Excellent creative judgement with ability to shape ideas, maintain outstanding editorial standards and consistently deliver content that drives measurable results.
Experience working in fast-paced, high-profile environments, engaging senior stakeholders and translating complex issues into clear, compelling and accessible content for diverse audiences.
