About the Role
Shape the future of technical capability across the UK's energy infrastructure sector. At Balfour Beatty, we deliver the infrastructure that powers communities, businesses and homes across the UK. We are seeking an exceptional Head of Technical Training to lead the development of a future-ready workforce within our Power Transmission & Distribution business. This unique leadership role involves setting the strategic direction for training across the UK, creating a modern, scalable training function that supports business growth, workforce development and operational excellence.

As Head of Technical Training, you will work closely with senior leaders, operational teams, HR and external industry partners to ensure our people have the capability, competence and confidence to deliver some of the UK's most important energy projects safely and successfully. You will lead apprenticeship programmes, trainee pathways, competence frameworks and technical development initiatives that strengthen our workforce and support the UK's transition to a more resilient energy network.

Key responsibilities include leading and delivering the long-term training strategy for the UK Power T&D business, building and inspiring a high-performing technical training function, designing scalable development programmes and talent pipelines, ensuring compliance with industry standards and governance frameworks, driving workforce competence and performance, developing strong external relationships, overseeing training infrastructure and partnerships, using data and insight to improve training outcomes, and collaborating with HR and operational teams to align capability development with business demand.

Requirements

Experience
- Significant experience leading training, learning or workforce development functions within technical, engineering, operational or safety-critical environments.
- Proven track record of developing and delivering training strategies that support business growth.
- Experience designing apprenticeships, development pathways, upskilling initiatives and workforce capability programmes.
- Strong knowledge of competence management, compliance requirements and quality assurance processes.
- Experience managing budgets, suppliers and programme performance.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and build partnerships internally and externally.

Qualifications
