About the Role
BBC News Persian is one of the World Service’s largest language services, reaching an estimated weekly audience of around 25 million people in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and worldwide. As the leading international broadcaster in Iran, it provides trusted, impartial news and current affairs content across television, radio and digital platforms. BBC News, with a weekly global audience of 468 million, uses multiple platforms to deliver accurate, impartial news in 42 languages. The World Service is a renowned multimedia broadcaster, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences.
Your key responsibilities include using a range of video, audio and digital equipment and IT to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium to the highest professional standards. You may be required to present content on radio, TV or online, live or recorded. You will undertake pre and post production and studio work, live and pre-recorded. Additional duties include translating news, preparing content for publication on websites or social media platforms, producing text and graphics for programmes, finding and coordinating guests for news programmes, booking satellite slots for live broadcasts and supporting field reporters as their producer.
You will work effectively in teams and on shift rotas, taking a lead within a team setting or on specific journalism projects as appropriate. Prioritising and planning activities with consideration to deadlines, staffing and resources is essential. Flexible working options are available and will be discussed at offer stage.
Experience
Significant recent experience as a journalist with strong production skills to create engaging packages across TV, online and social media platforms. Proven ability to exercise sound editorial judgment and produce accurate, impartial journalism to tight deadlines.
About You
Native or equivalent fluency in modern standard Farsi with excellent spoken and written skills and fast, accurate typing under deadline. Full proficiency in written and spoken English with effective communication skills. Strong knowledge and interest in the Persian digital market and passion for Iran, the region and international news. Deep understanding of current affairs, history, social issues, business, arts, culture and sport. Awareness of the BBC Persian news agenda and broader BBC strategy is desirable.
Qualifications
Relevant journalistic qualifications or equivalent experience are expected. Before your start date, you may need to disclose any unspent convictions or police charges in line with BBC policy to assess any support needs or risks.
