About the Role
The Tuberculosis (TB) Unit within the Tuberculosis, Acute Respiratory, Zoonoses, Emerging infection, and Travel health division (TARZET) at UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is seeking a Lead Nurse to provide specialist nursing and public health expertise in TB care, prevention, and control. The role supports the delivery of the national ‘TB Action Plan 2021-2026’ and contributes to the elimination of TB as a public health problem, a WHO target the UK has committed to.

The Lead Nurse will provide expert advice nationally to health and allied professionals, work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, and contribute to outbreak investigation and management. Responsibilities include reviewing complex data and laboratory results, developing policies and guidelines, championing modern health protection practices, and communicating specialist knowledge to diverse stakeholders.

The role also involves leading specific areas of practice, contributing to training and education programmes, providing supervision and leadership to health protection practitioners, and participating in audit and research activities to support evidence-based practice and service development.

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with NHS England, NHS Trusts, international agencies, academic partners, and other key stakeholders in a politically sensitive and complex environment, promoting collaborative surveillance and health protection initiatives.
