About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised, proactive, and confident individual to join the Leader’s Office at Merton Council as the Leader’s Executive Support Manager. This is a key role following the recent re-election of the current administration with an increased majority in May 2026, making it an exciting time to contribute to delivering the administration’s ambitions to make Merton a cleaner, greener, safer, and more affordable place to live and work.

Reporting to the Head of the Leader’s Office, you will provide high-quality, confidential support to the Leader of the Council. Your responsibilities will include managing complex diaries and inboxes, preparing and commissioning briefings and correspondence on behalf of the Leader with input from subject matter experts, and acting as the main point of contact between the Leader and senior officers, elected members, and internal and external stakeholders.

You will manage the Leader’s Office casework function, including line management of the Leader’s Caseworker and Casework Apprentice. Additionally, you will support the organisation of events and visits for the Leader, including line managing the Events and Visits Apprentice.

This role operates in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. You will manage a wide range of requests, communications, and correspondence, delivering a high-performing executive support function that anticipates and responds to the Leader’s needs. You will also lead on special projects and assignments, coordinating internal and external stakeholders to ensure delivery on the administration’s priorities.

Merton Council offers excellent holiday entitlement, a competitive salary, and enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience in providing high-level executive support, managing complex diaries and correspondence, and handling confidential information with discretion. Experience in line management and coordinating multiple stakeholders is essential.

About you
You are highly organised, proactive, confident, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders. You are adaptable, able to manage competing priorities, and committed to delivering high-quality support that enables strategic priorities to be met.

Qualifications
While specific qualifications are not stated, a background in administration, executive support, or a related field is desirable. A commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to learn and grow within the role is important.
