About the Role
The multi-Oscar-winning creative Film & Episodic Studio at Framestore collaborates with some of the greatest storytellers in film today. Working closely with directors and producers throughout the filmmaking process, Framestore focuses on innovative creative solutions to support their vision and set new standards for visual effects in cinema. Driven by creativity and inspired by the future, Framestore combines talent and technology to bring life to everything created.

Reporting to the Head of Lighting, the Lighting Technical Director (TD) will oversee look development and shading for high-quality photorealistic CG assets and the final assembly of 3D scenes. Responsibilities include managing lighting setups and rendering elements to complete high-end, photo-realistic VFX shots. Key duties involve implementing lighting as specified by leads, assembling CG scenes with assets from various departments, collaborating on look development requirements, and optimizing shading setups to maximize render-farm efficiency.

The Lighting TD will work closely with CG Supervisors and shot Compositors to strategize solutions for complex CG challenges, develop and refine shots, render additional passes, and set up or adjust lighting configurations. They will analyse real-world lighting—including colour and direction—and replicate it accurately within the CG environment. The role requires adherence to production schedules and deadlines while maintaining exceptional quality standards, with open communication maintained across Production and departmental leads. Additional tasks may include coordinating assets or elements from other departments and submitting shots for review with revisions based on feedback.

This role demands a blend of technical skills, creative collaboration, and proactive communication to drive the production of visually stunning VFX sequences.
