About the Role
Join the Ministry of Defence Guard Service (MGS) and be part of the front line protecting the UK’s most critical Defence sites. As a Security Supervisor, you will supervise all MGS Security Officers at your unit, ensuring the protection of people, property, information, and assets from damage, destruction, or unauthorised removal.
Your key duties will include overseeing daily working patterns and rosters, deploying officers according to assignment instructions and security requirements, liaising with Unit Heads of Establishment and customer representatives, and assisting the Operational Manager in maintaining compliance with security standards.
You will manage performance, encourage a positive and inclusive working environment, respond to security concerns, manage incidents alongside first responders, visit other MGS units for supervisory support, write reports on security breaches and defects, and operate security systems such as CCTV, alarms, telephone, and radio. When required, you will also perform the duties of a Security Officer.
This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a good level of physical fitness due to patrolling large areas and standing for extended periods.
As part of your supervisory role, you may be expected to cover Security Officer duties, which include ensuring site safety and security, conducting patrols, controlling access, performing searches, responding to incidents, assisting employees and visitors, monitoring security systems, managing traffic and parking, and maintaining security logs and incident reports.
The Ministry of Defence Guard Service provides a Gold Standard Security Service based on professionalism, trust, and excellence, safeguarding over 170 MOD sites across the UK including high-profile locations such as the MOD Main Building in London, Whitehall, and naval bases.
Training & Development
New starters complete a mandatory two-week residential Foundation Course, including Emergency First Aid at Work training, followed by structured on-the-job training. Ongoing professional development is supported through an annual online learning programme and dedicated Workforce Development Team assistance.
Experience
Previous supervisory experience is desirable but not essential. No prior security experience is required as full training and uniform are provided. Experience from diverse backgrounds such as security, military, retail, hospitality, care, logistics, teaching, or customer service is valued.

Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required for this role. Successful candidates must be sole UK nationals (no dual nationality) and able to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance, which generally requires UK residency for the past 10 years. A good level of physical fitness is essential due to the nature of the role.
