About the Role
Meta is seeking an Optical Deployment Engineer (Subsea, LH & Metro) to support and deploy one of the world’s largest and most complex optical networks. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on projects involving the implementation and scaling of Meta’s optical network across ULH terrestrial, regional metro, and subsea networks, interconnecting data centers and Points of Presence (POP) sites across EMEA. You will deploy, configure, and support a large-scale production optical network, delivering capacity across both Optical and IP infrastructure to support Meta’s product portfolio. Collaborating with internal and external partners, you will drive improvements in deployment velocity and quality, align on best practices with global teams, and support cross-regional projects as needed. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining engineering design packages, generating implementation plans, providing technical leadership during deployments, evaluating new hardware and software with vendors, reviewing acceptance documents, troubleshooting network issues, and planning network maintenance and upgrades. You will work closely with Network Engineering, Logistics, equipment vendors, and fibre providers to ensure seamless integration of new optical technologies. This role involves some pre-planned travel and requires proactive contributions to documentation, automation, and process improvements.
Experience
- Hands-on experience deploying optical networks
- Experience with optical network design, installation, and maintenance for service providers or enterprise networks
- Experience in capacity delivery connecting Optical and IP infrastructure to deliver end-to-end capacity
- Knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies, and operation of optical transport systems
- Experience with optical test equipment and troubleshooting using C-OTDR, OTDR, OSA, BERT, and optical power meters
- Experience creating rack elevations and planned/install/as-built documentation
- Experience communicating and coordinating tasks with carriers remotely
- Experience analyzing situations and using systems, tools, and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Experience working in a global team environment
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
About you
You are a proactive, detail-oriented engineer with strong technical expertise in optical networks and a passion for innovation. You thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments and enjoy collaborating across teams and regions. You have excellent communication skills and a commitment to continuous learning, especially in emerging AI technologies that enhance network operations.
Qualifications
Relevant technical qualifications or certifications in optical networking or related fields are desirable but not explicitly required. A strong foundation in optical transport systems and capacity delivery is essential.
