About the Role
We are looking for experienced Paint and Roto Artists to work closely with Compositors to help integrate all elements of an image, including CG and live action, to create film visual effects shots. This role involves creating mattes for CG hold-outs and using various techniques and software to remove items such as wires, rigs, and tracking markers. Responsibilities include creating roto mattes for Compositors, using patches and frame-by-frame painting techniques to remove rigs and tracking markers, de-graining and re-graining paint work, and understanding 3D tracking to create 1, 2, and 4 point tracks. You will also create foreground mattes for Animators within Maya, navigate Linux to manage shot directories, reconstruct images, use expressions within Nuke to aid paint work, and work with the 3D environment in Nuke including geo data and UV projections. Additional duties include accurately bidding on paint and roto shot durations, developing Framestore-specific gizmos and workflows, completing basic composites in Nuke, and demonstrating keying, grading, re-timing, and screen insertion skills. A willingness to learn new techniques and software and to share knowledge with other artists is essential.

Experience
At least 12 months experience in a Paint & Roto position. Prior use of a roto-scoping package, ideally Silhouette. Previous use of Nuke and familiarity with a Linux-based operating system. Understanding of motion blur and its effect on mattes and patches.

Qualifications
An Arts or Science degree in a moving picture or art-related subject is preferred.
