About the Role
As a Patient Facilitator within the NHS practice administration team, you will play a vital role in ensuring smooth and efficient patient services. Your duties will include answering telephones promptly, managing appointment systems, processing requests for appointments and consultations, and directing patients to the appropriate healthcare professional or service. You will be responsible for opening and securing the practice premises, handling incoming and outgoing mail, taking and processing messages, and maintaining filing systems. Additional responsibilities include processing repeat prescriptions, data entry, supporting clinicians with timely information, and assisting with clinical and non-clinical tasks such as clearing consulting rooms and managing supplies.
You will also support emergency situations, participate in training, assist with patient recalls via multiple communication channels, and help improve practice outcomes. Flexibility in working hours and location is required to provide cross-site cover when needed. You will process electronic GP systems, manage patient records, handle complaints according to policy, and maintain a high level of customer service. Ensuring new patients are registered smoothly and practice policies are followed, especially regarding carers and immunisations, is also part of the role.
This position requires a professional, friendly, and approachable individual who can work effectively within a team and adapt to evolving practice needs while maintaining confidentiality and data protection standards.
Experience
- Experience working with the public
- Experience in a pressurised environment
- Previous receptionist experience, preferably in healthcare or GP practice
- Knowledge of Emis Web system is desirable
