St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for four full-time Band 3 Patient Access Coordinator (3 permanent and a 12 month fixed term) and 1 permanent part time evening Patient Access Coordinator with the Dental Departments within Guy's Hospital. Please Note: Vacancy may close early due to high numbers of applications Main duties of the job We are searching for a committed, motivated person with strong organisational abilities and meticulous attention to detail. The chosen candidate will be able to have a friendly face when dealing with patients, staff and clinicians, prioritise your workload based upon the needs of the service, work well with others, communicate with a multitude of different individuals across several mediums and meet targets and adjust to changing workloads based upon service needs. It is preferred to have experience working with the NHS but not a necessity, and the position provides excellent training, career possibilities, and support. In making new appointments the Dental Hospital seeks to attract and appoint exceptional academic clinicians, capable of delivering not only excellent clinical care but also who want to be involved in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level and in research, capable of making important, new contributions, maintaining the Dental Institute’s considerable momentum at the cutting edge of oral health sciences. The Dental Hospital is forwardlooking and dynamic with many state of the art facilities in which to undertake clinical care and pursue research. The immediate goal is to maintain our position as one of the world’s leading centres for dental healthcare, education and research. Detailed job description and main responsibilities Act as the first point of call for all patient access queries to the Trust which may include reception and back office work based upon service needs. On receipt of all new referral letters ensure that the vetting process has been followed in line with departmental guidelines. Be responsible for the scheduling of outpatient, elective admissions and all associated appointments according to clinical urgency and length of wait in accordance with departmental procedures and Trust Policies. Liaise with patients prior to their hospital visit to ensure that a mutually convenient date and time is agreed. Ensure that patients are appropriately reminded of their appointments. This may include sending reminder letters or contacting patients by telephone, up to seven days before their visit to re-confirm attendance in line with departmental protocols. Ensure that departmental standards are met for patients receiving notification or acknowledgement of their visit. Provide a courteous and efficient point of contact for patients both face to face and over the telephone. Ensure that each patient is treated as an individual and their individual needs are met (ie: appropriate support is in place for their appointment such as interpreting support). Person specification Qualification and Education Essential criteria Good general education with English and Maths to GCSE standard or equivalent Relevant NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification or experience Desirable criteria Qualifications and training in customer service IT proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Epic software used in hospitals. Previous experience Essential criteria Demonstrable experience in the healthcare industry working in an administrative capacity. Work experience in a customer-focused setting that demonstrates the capacity to handle challenging clients and circumstances Desirable criteria Experience of an administrative role within the NHS. Experience of working both autonomously and in a team.
