About the Role
Support the wellbeing of our workforce by ensuring payroll details are accurate and delivered on time. As a Payroll Officer, you will play a key role in delivering a smooth and reliable payroll service that directly impacts colleagues across the Council. You will be part of a small, friendly team handling payroll for a wide and varied workforce, acting as the first point of contact for pay-related queries and supporting employees, managers, and external partners with clarity, empathy, and professionalism.
Your responsibilities will include processing day-to-day payroll transactions, managing queries around pay and deductions, running regular and ad-hoc payroll cycles, and handling overpayments, claims, and court orders with accuracy and compliance. With the recent transition of payroll services in-house, you will also have the exciting opportunity to help test and refine the new Oracle payroll system and contribute to developing streamlined processes for the future.
Working three days a week in the Borough office, you will be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents’ lives by ensuring colleagues are supported, valued, and paid on time.
Experience
Proven experience working with payroll systems and statutory processes including PAYE, National Insurance, and pensions. Experience handling pay calculations, payroll data, and responding to payroll queries is essential.

Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills. Ability to work well under pressure, managing deadlines and complex data accurately. Qualifications
A good understanding of payroll systems and statutory requirements is required. Confidence in using Excel for data analysis and reporting is essential. Formal payroll qualifications are advantageous but not mandatory.
