About the Role
Are you looking for an interesting and challenging position within a political environment? This role offers the opportunity to provide broad-ranging support to the Reform Group, one of the Opposition Groups of the Council. Working closely with the Leader, Deputy Leader, Whip, other members, council officers, and stakeholders, you will support the effective functioning of the Reform Group.
You will organise and support meetings, undertake research, advise on political strategy, policies and positions, and draft reports, briefings, speeches, speaking notes, and communications to advance the Group’s objectives. Additionally, you will support engagement with Reform UK at both national and London levels.

About the Team
The role is based in the Strategy and Transformation Directorate and reports to the Head of Democratic Services. The team supports the political life of the Local Authority and Council decision-making processes affecting every resident and visitor to Hounslow, a borough covering a large area of West London from Feltham to Brentford and Chiswick.
As Political Assistant to the Reform Group, you will work closely with the Group’s Leader, Deputy Leader, Whip, senior Members, backbenchers, officers, and local stakeholders.
Experience
- Membership of Reform UK is essential.
- Practical experience dealing with public bodies or political organisations is desirable.
- Good knowledge of political structures and public affairs is preferred.
- Strong research skills with the ability to evaluate and analyse policy issues.
- Experience drafting complex documents such as briefings, speeches, newsletters, press releases, and reports.
About You
- Good political judgement and understanding of the Reform Party’s ways of working.
- Excellent communication skills to act as first point of contact and ensure effective communication between Group Members, the national party, the Council, and other stakeholders.
- Strong administrative skills to assist with organisation and administration, including regular attendance at evening Group meetings.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and able to work collaboratively in a dynamic political environment.
Qualifications
- Current membership of Reform UK is required.
- No specific formal qualifications are necessary, but strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
- Willingness to work evenings and occasional weekends with time off in lieu.
