St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research. Job overview A vacancy for a Principal Business Intelligence Analyst in the Cogito team has arisen, due to promotion of the previous postholder. Our Principal BI Analysts are experts in reporting NHS operational and clinical data from Epic, particularly within the front-end tools, Reporting Workbench, Radar, and SlicerDicer, as well as by querying our Caboodle data warehouse using SQL. We work closely with the ITCS teams which support Epic applications; informatics departments in partner organisations; data warehouse teams; and end-users across every staff group. Please note this role requires hybrid working and will necessitate travel between Guy's and St. Thomas', King's College Hospital and Royal Brompton and Harefield sites. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will facilitate the realisation of the benefit of Epic reporting for patients, staff and the public. Principal BI analysts are expected to work autonomously, prioritise their workload and balance competing demands and deadlines. The work of the team includes analysis of business requirements; development of new Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer and Radar content in concert with application teams and SMEs; maintaining and supporting existing content; delivery of Epic upgrades; producing training materials and documentation; and facilitating other information teams' use of Epic reporting tools. The post holder will be expected, within the context of the broader programme of work, to manage BI development projects to completion, overseeing the work required to achieve project goals and being involved in the design and implementation of processes to support the transition of those BI reports and tools into operation – e.g. support processes, documentation and user training. Obtaining and maintaining Epic accreditation in the Cogito module is essential. If you do not have a Cogito accreditation, you will be expected to obtain one within the first few months in this role. The two Trusts share a Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) and a vision for digital services that are lean and agile, that maximise the benefits of a shared service operating model, and deliver the digital ambition for both Trusts. This ambition is supported by a forward-looking and strategic approach, and significant investment in a new Electronic Health Record (EHR) which will catalyse a programme of work across both Trusts to transform the way technology and data is used across our services. Detailed job description and main responsibilities The post holder will: provide their expertise in the analysis of requirements, design of BI solutions, and development of new datasets, reports and data visualisation tools in the Epic information and technology environment. analyse and design solutions for problems or issues with reports and dashboards within the Epic data environments and provide support and expertise for informatics solutions related to the new Epic electronic Health Record (EHR). be required to be qualified in the relevant Epic Cogito area and may need to undertake training (in the UK and/or overseas) to achieve the relevant competency and c ertification within five months of starting in the role. utilise their highly developed specialist knowledge of health informatics and NHS data models, derived from knowledge of theory, training, and/or extensive experience, to suggest solutions to problems or business requirements and work these through from design to implementation as part of Epic EHR deployment. engage in a team based development process designed around agile methodologies to allow the service to respond quickly to customer needs for information and information products. The post holder will collaborate in a formal system of change management to enable safe transition of information products and systems from design to operation.
