About the Role

As a Principal Fire Engineer, you’ll typically be working on a variety of projects at once, from a university in Scotland to a high-rise residential tower in London, including international projects. Your goal will be to enable innovative architectural design without compromising fire safety.

You will review design information, liaise with other WSP disciplines such as Facades, Acoustics, and Structures, present designs to local authorities and the Fire Service, and advise the design team on changes to improve building safety. You will be supported through training on various software packages, fire standards, team briefings, and client updates. WSP fosters a collaborative environment with regular social events.

In addition to your day-to-day role, WSP will assist you toward professional registration via the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) and other professional bodies. Our bespoke development programme offers professional skills and specialist technical training, supported by senior leadership, to help you work towards chartered status or equivalent qualifications. The structured programme includes training in technical report writing, team-specific technical skills, project management (introductory and advanced), influential communications, commercial concepts, collaborative team challenges, and continuous improvement.

Experience
Proven experience within the fire engineering consulting industry is essential.

Qualifications
You hold a BSc (BEng) or MSc (MEng) degree in Fire, Structural, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
