About the Role
As a Principal Product Data Scientist at Tripadvisor, you will serve as the most senior technical leader within the Product Data Science function. You will shape the vision, set the technical direction, and drive strategic impact through innovative analytical solutions. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise and strong collaborative leadership, working closely with senior Product and Engineering leadership to embed data-driven decision making at the highest levels of the organization.
Your responsibilities will include leading the Data Science strategy for Product, driving adoption of advanced analytics, AI methodologies, and next-generation data science tooling focused on automation, scalability, and reproducibility. You will spearhead the exploration and integration of emerging AI technologies such as Agentic AI, champion best practices in experimentation and causal inference, and take ownership of complex, high-profile analytical projects that deliver commercial and customer value.
Additionally, you will mentor and develop other Data Scientists and Analysts, foster a culture of critical thinking and technical excellence, and lead initiatives to scale impact through automation and democratization of data science capabilities. You will also develop sophisticated customer segmentation and predictive models that directly inform and optimize the product roadmap, while effectively communicating complex analytical concepts to diverse stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Design, and Commercial teams.
Experience
Extensive experience in data science or a similar quantitative role with a proven track record of supporting and influencing product organizations. Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, drive product strategy, and communicate complex insights effectively to cross-functional partners.
About you
- Expert-level proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Deep hands-on experience with statistical modeling, (quasi) experimentation, multi-arm bandit, and a wide range of machine learning techniques including regression, classification, and clustering.
- Proven ability to define, implement, and operationalize product and feature-level metrics.
- Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and coaching teams of analysts or data scientists.
- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, capable of engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
- Critical thinker with the ability to analyze facts, evidence, and arguments to form unbiased judgments.
- Experience scaling analytics capabilities through automation, self-service tools, or data products.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field. Advanced degrees such as a Master's or equivalent relevant programs are a plus.
You could be an especially great fit if you have:
- Advanced programming skills to build simulations and prototype data products.
- Experience validating quantitative findings with qualitative methods such as surveys or user research.
- Demonstrated experience with applied AI technologies including NLP, Large Language Models (LLMs), or Agentic AI.
