About the Role
The Financial Times is seeking a Professional Services Correspondent to join the London Newsroom. This new role is designed to expand and elevate coverage of the professional services sector as it faces AI disruption, slower growth, and increased scrutiny. You will focus on breaking news about major strategy and IT consultancies such as McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Bain, and Accenture, as well as the advisory operations of the Big Four firms – Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and PwC. Working closely with colleagues in London and New York, you will explore how AI is reshaping the sector globally, threatening traditional business models while creating new opportunities. The role involves delivering scoops and insightful reporting on leadership, pay, and power dynamics within these firms, as well as regulatory and reputational issues. You will collaborate with the FT’s global network to investigate the impact of AI on IT consulting and enterprise software implementation. The position requires working closely with the US Professional Services Editor and the London-based Accountancy Correspondent, contributing across multiple media formats as the FT expands its professional services coverage. Weekend shifts and providing cover for team members during absences are part of the role. The FT values original reporting, great writing, and intelligent commentary, and expects applicants to refrain from using AI in test submissions, using it only as a research tool where appropriate.

Our Commitment
The Financial Times is dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering a supportive workplace where all voices are heard, respected, and valued. We are committed to removing barriers for underrepresented groups and providing a workplace where employees can be their authentic selves and reach their full potential.

Benefits
Our benefits vary by location but include generous annual leave, medical cover, inclusive parental leave packages, subsidised gym memberships, and opportunities to give back to the community. FT Newsroom staff are expected to work onsite a minimum of three days per week, subject to role requirements and regular review. Flexible working requests will be considered but may not suit all editorial roles. We are a disability confident employer and Valuable 500 signatory, committed to providing reasonable adjustments throughout the application process and employment.

Requirements

Experience
Proven ability to deliver scoops and insightful reporting on professional services firms, including strategy and IT consultancies and the Big Four advisory operations. Experience working in a fast-paced newsroom environment and collaborating with global teams is highly desirable.

About you
You are a curious, ambitious journalist with a passion for original reporting and intelligent commentary. You have a strong understanding of the professional services sector and the impact of AI and technology on business models. You are able to work collaboratively across teams and media formats, and are comfortable working weekend shifts as part of a rota. You demonstrate integrity, accuracy, and fairness in your journalism and are committed to upholding the FT’s editorial standards.

Qualifications
There are no specific formal qualifications required, but a background in journalism or related fields and a track record of high-quality reporting are essential. Applicants should be able to produce original written work without reliance on AI tools for content creation.
