About the Role
At Mace, our purpose is to redefine the boundaries of ambition by creating responsible places that bring transformative impact to people, communities, and societies globally. Within our consult business, we combine practical expertise and project delivery consultancy to unlock the potential in every project. Mace has a significant track record in the education sector, delivering landmark projects for schools, colleges, local authorities, and central government. As the leading consultant for the Department for Education (DfE), we deliver projects across principal capital programmes including the Schools Re-building Programme (SRP), free schools, special educational needs, and further education colleges.
We are seeking lead technical advisors/project managers to further their careers by leading high-performing multidisciplinary teams across a wide portfolio of new build, refurbishment, remodelling, and carbon reduction schemes. Our integrated in-house services include design, cost, information management, sustainability, and health and safety, providing clients with a seamless end-to-end service and a single point of accountability.
This client-facing role involves developing client strategies, initial design, contractor appointment, and contract management. Projects typically include BIM, off-site construction, soft landings, social value creation, and skills development, with a focus on net zero carbon in operation and sometimes in construction.
Key responsibilities include leading multi-disciplinary teams through all project stages, managing and developing teams, producing feasibility and RIBA Stage 2 designs, chairing progress meetings, managing procurement and contract administration, risk management, quality control, and overseeing handover and defects liability periods. You will prepare detailed project plans and financial reports, ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders.
Mace values safety, client focus, integrity, and creating opportunities for people to excel. Our agile working approach supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements to suit the role and individual needs.
Experience
Proven experience delivering projects in a consultancy environment, ideally within the education sector. Experience managing complex projects with public sector clients is preferred. Familiarity with contract administration and various forms of contract, particularly NEC, is advantageous. Demonstrable relevant experience alongside a desire to learn is welcomed, including professionals transitioning from other technical disciplines.
About you
Strong client service orientation with excellent communication and emotional intelligence. Ability to build lasting relationships with clients and team members. Digitally savvy and effective team player. Enthusiastic about career growth and contributing to a sustainable and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications
Suitable qualification in a relevant discipline. Membership of a professional body such as RICS, CIOB, APM, or equivalent is desirable. Mace welcomes applications from diverse candidates and supports flexible, part-time, and hybrid working arrangements where suitable.
