About the Role
Build your commercial career with Balfour Beatty Rail! We are seeking a commercially focused Quantity Surveyor to join our Rail Team working on the Sizewell C project. This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with solid building or civil engineering experience to take a hands-on role managing subcontract packages, driving value, supporting cost control and helping deliver a high-profile project to the standards our customers expect. The role will be split between London and the site office in Leiston, Suffolk.

Key responsibilities include managing subcontract packages from order completion through to monthly site valuations, variations and final account activity; preparing accurate cost forecasts and contributing to the overall project forecast each month; measuring, recording and valuing work in line with relevant rules, procedures and project requirements; supporting procurement activity by gathering information, documenting requirements and managing the commercial steps needed to appoint and manage the supply chain; working closely with internal teams, subcontractors and the client’s surveying team on valuations, variations, payments and commercial reporting; using commercial systems to collate cost and value information, support cost reconciliation and maintain strong financial control; and identifying opportunities to minimise cost, enhance value for money and maintain required quality standards.

Experience
A BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent relevant experience. Experience in a commercial or quantity surveying role within building, civil engineering or construction. Confidence in measurement, valuations, cost forecasting, variations and working with subcontract packages. Good knowledge of drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and schedules of rates.

About you
A structured, analytical approach with strong attention to detail. Clear communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with project teams, subcontractors, stakeholders and customers. Chartered status, or working towards professional membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB, would be highly desirable.

Qualifications
BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent relevant experience. Professional membership or working towards membership of relevant industry bodies is highly desirable.
