About the Role
Ealing Council is proud to be recognised as a Borough of Sanctuary, welcoming people affected by forced migration and offering safety, inclusion and belonging. Our borough is home to sanctuary seekers from various migration pathways including asylum, resettlement, Homes for Ukraine, and Hong Kong (BNO) arrivals. Each group brings unique experiences, skills and contributions that enrich our communities and strengthen the fabric of Ealing.
In 2025, the Borough of Sanctuary Strategy was launched, co-produced with residents and the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector (VCFS). This strategy sets a bold vision to embed welcome, inclusion and opportunity across all council services. Supported by action plans focusing on housing, community participation, health and wellbeing, employment and education, the strategy ensures sanctuary seekers receive coordinated and compassionate support.
As a Sanctuary Officer, you will play a key role in turning this strategy into action. Working within a small, dynamic Equalities and Engagement team, you will coordinate delivery of sanctuary action plans by tracking progress, supporting partnerships, managing logistics and ensuring commitments are met on time and within budget.
You will collaborate closely with council colleagues, VCFS partners and residents with lived experience to design and deliver inclusive programmes such as hotel drop-ins and the annual Ealing Sanctuary Forum. Additionally, you will prepare reports and data insights to inform decision-making and drive service improvements.
This is a fixed term role for three years, subject to Ealing’s enhanced vetting process. The Council is committed to being an open, transparent and inclusive organisation, improving engagement with local communities to ensure all voices are heard and residents have confidence in how change is managed.
If you are passionate about inclusion, community empowerment and making a lasting difference to people seeking sanctuary, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to develop your skills in programme delivery and partnership working while making a tangible impact.
Experience
Experience in programme coordination, partnership working or community engagement is desirable. Experience working with people affected by forced migration or in related sectors is advantageous but not essential.
About you
You are highly organised, collaborative and passionate about supporting sanctuary seekers. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders including residents, voluntary sector partners and council teams. You are committed to inclusion, community empowerment and delivering high-quality programmes.
We especially encourage applications from candidates with lived experience of forced migration and those with language skills reflecting our community.
Qualifications
No specific qualifications are required, but relevant experience or education in community development, social sciences, public administration or related fields will be an advantage.
