About the Role
Meta is seeking a Security Engineering Manager to lead a team of domain experts within our Applied Artificial Intelligence (AAI) organization. This team spans security, privacy, and trust and safety, tasked with solving complex, real-world problems and transforming expert reasoning into signals that enhance AI system capabilities. Your team's output directly improves models and supports engineering and operations teams across Meta, compounding impact over time.

As a manager, you will be accountable for both your team’s health, engagement, growth, and performance, as well as the technical output—ensuring volume, quality, and complexity of expert signals address the most critical capability gaps. You will maintain hands-on involvement to retain credibility and current domain judgment.

This role operates in an early-stage applied research environment with high-priority, evolving challenges. You will support, develop, and grow experienced engineers across security, privacy, integrity, and trust and safety domains. Responsibilities include people development through regular 1:1s, growth planning, feedback, performance management, and navigating organizational change.

You will provide technical direction, debug quality issues, initiate or advise research projects, and collaborate with engineering managers, technical leads, and model researchers to ensure successful workstreams. Additionally, you will contribute to recruiting, organizational health, internal technical forums, and company-wide engineering initiatives.

Requirements

Experience
- 8+ years in security, privacy, integrity, trust and safety, or related technical fields, including hands-on technical management
- 4+ years of people management and organizational leadership
- Demonstrated technical depth in at least one domain sufficient to set direction and assess expert work quality
- Proficiency in coding with languages such as Python, Go, C/C++, or shell scripting
- Experience leveraging AI tools to redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Ability to lead teams through complex, ambiguous problems with evolving roadmaps
- Experience adhering to responsible, ethical AI practices including risk assessment, bias mitigation, and quality reviews
- Ongoing AI skill development and familiarity with emerging AI technologies
- Experience creating scalable methodologies to transfer domain expertise across teams
- Contributions to security, privacy, or integrity communities through research, tools, presentations, or publications
- Depth in adversarial analysis, abuse and integrity systems, or privacy and data protection engineering
- Experience designing benchmarks, evaluation harnesses, or technical capability measurements
- Proven success growing individual contributors through coaching and development

About you
You are a technically strong leader energized by early-stage applied research environments and complex problem solving. You maintain current domain expertise through direct technical contribution and thrive in ambiguous, evolving settings. You are skilled at connecting individual strengths and interests to high-impact projects and fostering team health and engagement. You are collaborative, proactive, and committed to ethical AI practices.
