About the Role
Meta is seeking a Security Engineering Manager to lead a team of domain experts within our Applied Artificial Intelligence (AAI) organization. The team focuses on security, privacy, and trust and safety, solving complex real-world problems and transforming expert reasoning into signals that enhance AI system capabilities. Your team's output improves both the models and the practitioners who rely on them.
As a manager, you will be accountable for your team's health, engagement, growth, and performance, as well as the technical output—ensuring volume, quality, and complexity of expert signals are prioritized against critical capability gaps. You will maintain direct technical involvement to keep your domain judgment current and credible.
This role operates in an applied research environment at an early stage, where problem selection is driven by domain experts rather than a fixed roadmap. It is ideal for a manager energized by ambiguity and high-impact challenges.
Key responsibilities include supporting and growing a team of experienced engineers across security, privacy, integrity, and trust and safety; owning people development through regular 1:1s, growth planning, feedback, and performance management; providing technical direction and debugging issues alongside technical leads; initiating or advising research projects and internal advisory engagements; collaborating with partner managers, technical leads, and researchers; and contributing to recruiting, organizational health, internal forums, and company-wide engineering programs.
Experience
- 8+ years in security, privacy, integrity, trust and safety, or related technical fields, including hands-on technical management
- 4+ years in people management and organizational leadership
- Demonstrated technical depth in at least one domain (security, privacy, integrity, or trust and safety) sufficient to set direction and assess expert technical work
- Proficiency in coding with experience in languages such as Python, Go, C/C++, or shell scripting
- Experience leveraging AI tools to redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience leading teams through complex, ambiguous problems with evolving roadmaps
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices including risk assessment, bias mitigation, and quality reviews
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development and staying current with emerging AI technologies
- Experience creating structured methodologies to scale domain expertise across teams
- Experience improving AI model performance through expert feedback, red-teaming, or evaluation design
- Contributions to the security, privacy, or integrity community through research, tools, presentations, or publications
- Depth in adversarial analysis of software systems, abuse and integrity systems, or privacy and data protection engineering
- Experience designing benchmarks, evaluation harnesses, or other technical capability measurements
- Proven ability to grow individual contributors through coaching and development
About you
You are a motivated leader who thrives in an early-stage applied research environment with high-priority, complex problems. You maintain credibility through current technical involvement and enjoy coaching and growing experienced practitioners. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving impact through AI-enabled workflows and ethical AI practices.
