About the Role
Community Neighbourhoods are localised networks that bring together physical assets like libraries and community centres with social assets such as volunteering and sports activities to increase people’s networks. They are central to the Council’s vision for developing community resilience by building community infrastructure that enables residents to network, volunteer, and be active, strengthening community cohesion and resilience.
As a Senior Library Assistant, you will be the ‘face’ of Community Neighbourhoods within libraries, community centres, and at Community Neighbourhood events. Your role will involve engaging with residents and ensuring the smooth running of facilities on a day-to-day basis. Key duties include undertaking library tasks such as stock tidying, floor walking, and assisting residents with self-service and online systems. The role also covers supporting community centres and events.
You will assist in the daily opening and closing procedures of libraries and community centres and support senior officers with the day-to-day running of sites. This role requires a flexible approach as you may be asked to work across a variety of locations and functions within Community Neighbourhoods.
Experience
Experience working with the public is essential. Previous experience in a library or community setting is advantageous but not mandatory.

You should enjoy interacting with residents and be motivated to contribute positively to community cohesion. Strong organisational skills, good literacy, numeracy, and ICT abilities are required. A high degree of flexibility is essential to work across different locations and functions as needed.
