About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker to cover the night shift in our specialist intensive rehabilitation service. This service supports residents discharged from acute wards who require enhanced interventions to avoid inpatient rehabilitation. Residents live with us for up to nine months as they work towards greater independence and community integration.
As the main point of contact during the night shift, you will lead by example, providing specialist support to empower both the team and residents. Your role includes ensuring resident safety, wellbeing, and progress towards recovery goals, managing a safe and empowering environment, and building relationships with key partners.
You will create support plans, organise and hold activities, deliver one-to-one therapeutic support, act as a key worker, and help residents develop skills and confidence to manage their mental health. You will contribute to support plans, reflective learning, and team development while maintaining a safe, positive living environment through effective housing management and day-to-day support.
The night shift is crucial in maintaining the high quality care provided during the day, ensuring a safe, respectful, and responsive environment. Night staff are expected to remain awake, alert, and actively engaged throughout their shift; sleeping on duty is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as lead point of contact for the night shift, supporting team and residents
- Supporting night shifts across two residential properties
- Providing tailored, person-centred support promoting recovery, rehabilitation, and independence
- Helping residents build skills and confidence to move towards independent or supported living
- Monitoring residents’ wellbeing with regular checks and responding to incidents or emergencies
- Fostering a positive, empowering, and recovery-focused environment
- Maintaining accurate records and handovers to ensure effective communication between shifts
- Ensuring a calm, safe, and supportive environment that promotes positive engagement and progress
- Collaborating with colleagues and management to deliver high quality care
- Remaining alert and monitoring CCTV throughout the shift
- Completing routine night duties and tasks handed over by day shift or service manager
- Key worker duties including inductions, support plans, reviews, risk assessments, welfare checks, record updates, managing access and unauthorized visitors, following missing person protocols, and escalating issues when needed
- Health & Safety duties including property checks, reporting maintenance issues, keeping communal areas clean and safe, and completing required reports
Experience
- Previous experience working with people with multiple complex needs including mental health, substance misuse, alcohol, and challenging behaviours
- Experience creating co-produced support plans, key working, and care planning with appropriate interventions
- Experience in a similar senior role, able to share skills, knowledge, and support others
- Ability to act as a specialist point of contact for the team and residents
- IT proficiency including ability to learn new software and basic Microsoft applications
- Understanding of housing and social needs of people with multiple and complex needs
