About the Role
Balfour Beatty Power T&D is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the Lower Thames Crossing Project. You will be responsible for the commercial management of projects from pre-contract through to final account, ensuring robust cost control, value for money, commercial compliance, and effective risk management. This role provides leadership to the commercial team and supports project delivery in line with contractual, financial, and governance requirements. You will seek to minimise project costs while maximising value, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance are achieved.
Typically, you will be a Chartered Member of RICS, ICES, or CIOB (or working towards chartership) with experience managing and mentoring less-experienced commercial team members, supporting their development towards professional qualification. A commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and contributing to the ongoing development of commercial capability within the project team is essential.
Key responsibilities include leading commercial management of assigned projects, managing budgets, forecasting, cost reporting, and change control processes. You will prepare, assess, and agree compensation events, valuations, and final accounts, manage payment mechanisms, subcontract procurement strategies, and identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks. You will support governance approvals, provide clear commercial advice, contribute to dispute avoidance and resolution, and provide line management, mentoring, and technical guidance to Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors. Collaboration with project managers, procurement, legal, and finance teams is critical to support successful project delivery. You will build effective relationships with clients, supply chain partners, and internal stakeholders, produce accurate commercial reports, ensure robust record-keeping, and support continuous improvement initiatives within commercial processes and systems.
