About the Role
Balfour Beatty currently have an opportunity for a Senior Technology Engineer to work on the M25, one of the busiest and most important sections of road in the UK. As part of the Connect Plus Services business based in Leatherhead, you will assist in the efficient service delivery of the M25 DBFO Network by undertaking a wide range of incident response, hazard clearance, network maintenance and more.

In this role, you will manage and provide cost-effective design solutions to maintain or improve the M25 ITS/Technology assets, considering the needs of key stakeholders and delivering outcomes agreed with National Highways to programme and budget.

Your responsibilities will include ITS/Technology design schemes, completing technology design for a range of ITS assets (CCTV, signals, VMS, ERT, MIDAS, etc.) on time and to budget, and presenting progress reports to the client. You will assist the wider design team in various improvement and renewal schemes, deliver agreed outcomes to technical standards and legal requirements, undertake optioneering and feasibility studies, and prepare whole life costing.

You will develop and agree briefs with the design team and suppliers, ensure all designs meet DBFO contract and CPS internal quality standards, and work closely with the Project Manager for internal reviews and sign-offs. Additionally, you will contribute to design and supplier budgets, review supplier invoices, liaise with National Highways and statutory bodies, and report on performance against budget and programme.

Leading innovation and continual improvement in scheme delivery and design techniques is a key part of the role. You will support the development of in-house design capability, ensure learning and best practice are captured and shared across the business, and ensure compliance with Principal Designer duties under CDM regulations.

Experience
- Competent in ITS/Technology design and assessment.
- Knowledge of CDM and other Health & Safety legislation.
- Experience exercising Designer’s and Principal Designer duties under CDM.
- Knowledge of design and assessment standards relevant to ITS/Technology (DMRB, MCHW, IEC, 18th Edition IET Requirements for Electrical Installations).
- Working knowledge of ITS/Technology equipment including CCTV, signals, VMS, ERT, MIDAS.
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office.

About You
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good communication, project management and team building skills.
- Ability to develop relationships and engender trust at all levels within Connect Plus Services and with clients.
- Knowledge of communication networks and cyber security is desirable.
- Experience of highway design at various project life cycle stages is advantageous.
- Experience preparing and checking reports and drawings for design or construction projects.
- Consultation experience with National Highways, Local Councils, Emergency Services and key stakeholders.
- Broad skills and knowledge of other technology-related design areas.
- Licensed to drive in the UK or with reciprocal agreement.
- Hold appropriate CSCS card registration is desirable.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Project is beneficial.

Qualifications
- Relevant vocational qualifications (BEng, BSc, HNC, HND) are desirable.
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution (IET or IHE).
- Working towards IEng or CEng level.
