About the Role
The London Borough of Bexley is seeking a full-time Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) Advisory Teacher to join the Early Intervention and Specialist Advice Service. Bexley is an outer London Borough offering a unique blend of vibrant city life and the tranquillity of Kent, with award-winning parks, open spaces, and heritage sites. The Council is a high performing authority with well-regarded Children’s Services, committed to improving educational and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities across the Borough.

The Early Intervention Team includes SEN Strategic Support Partners, Educational Psychologists, SEMH Support Partners, AEN/SEN Support Partners, and Early Intervention Team Social Workers. The team works closely with schools at the SEN Support stage (SEND Code of Practice) and beyond, providing early intervention to reduce the need for higher threshold services.

The main purpose of this role is to provide early intervention support, advice, and guidance to schools, parents, and professionals regarding children experiencing social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties within school settings. The post holder will advise and train schools and teaching staff on behaviour strategies for groups of children, work directly with children and parents/carers to assess needs, and plan and deliver support programmes to improve engagement, attendance, progress, and attainment.

The role also contributes to the delivery of the Experts at Hand Offer, supporting children and families to achieve successful educational outcomes through early intervention.
