About the Role
Join us and help build a fairer Newham. We are a vibrant, dynamic, culturally rich London Borough with a young population and limitless potential. Newham is a challenging yet rewarding place for social work practice to flourish, committed to a workforce representative of the families we serve. We are actively developing an inclusive culture to enable diversity in all respects, including diversity of thought, and taking positive action to challenge discrimination and injustice to make Newham a fairer, more equitable place for children and families to live, learn and thrive.
We are building a fairer Newham through investment, co-production and continuously developing our 'Circles of Support' practice model, which centres on systemic and restorative practice alongside a specialist support offer for practitioners. Ofsted has recognised Newham’s positive culture of learning and development, and we prioritise internal talent growth. Since 2020, over 50 practitioners have pursued further education with us, and career progression is a reality for many colleagues.
Social Work in Newham is underpinned by systemic and restorative practice with high-quality relationships at its core. Our Children in Care teams provide statutory services to children in our care, their families, and support networks. Social Workers in Children in Care create Circles of Support to ensure children’s happiness and safety while the Council acts as corporate parent, working restoratively and using systemic tools to foster a team culture where good practice thrives.
This role offers a unique development opportunity as the service manages the majority of court work related to care proceedings. You will be fully supported by senior colleagues, Assistant Team Managers, Team Managers, Practice Development Social Workers, a comprehensive CP Chair service, and a Clinical Team of experienced Family Therapists.
We value your wellbeing and aim to support a better work/life balance through remote working when not visiting children and families, a modern office environment when on site, a flexible working policy, and clinical support to help you perform at your best.
Experience
Applicants must be qualified social workers who have completed their ASYE (or have equivalent practice experience) with demonstrable experience supporting children in care and their families. Experience of practice within the UK and valid registration with Social Work England are essential.
About you
We seek energetic, empathetic social workers with a genuine interest in restorative, relationship-based practice informed by systemic thinking. You should be committed to achieving positive outcomes for children and families and eager to engage with the learning, support, and personal development opportunities Newham offers.
