£43,500 - £54,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience
About the Role
Join the BBC Video Audiences team to deliver innovative ways for users to discover our world-class audio and video catalogue. As a Software Engineer, you will play a key role in migrating from a legacy framework to a new pan-BBC architecture, impacting millions of users across the UK. You will work closely with project, product and technical leads to design and implement software that meets complex product and business needs. The role involves enforcing best practices in code quality, testing, and documentation using modern tools and frameworks such as React. You will participate in agile development methodologies including pairing, code reviews, and continuous delivery, while continuously learning new technologies. This position is part of the BBC Extend programme, supporting disabled people, and offers a supportive and inclusive working environment.
Experience
- Strong understanding of TypeScript, CSS, React and Node.js
- Experience with testing frameworks such as Mocha and Sinon
- Proven ability to write and maintain robust production software in fast-changing environments with rapid release cycles
- Experience building and maintaining cloud infrastructure and resilient CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with pair programming, test-driven development (TDD), and agile processes
About You
- Responsible and proactive in delivering tasks to completion
- Comfortable working in a professional software development environment on multiple projects including testing, design, and release
- Enthusiastic about continuous learning and applying new technologies
Desirable
- Experience developing on AWS
- Experience working with GraphQL and RESTful APIs
- Experience as an out-of-hours or on-call engineer
