Hours
Full Time - Flexible working with core hours 10am – 4pm. One mandatory office day per week (currently Tuesdays, subject to change).
Salary
£43,500 – £54,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
About the Role
Join the BBC Video Audiences team to deliver innovative new ways for millions of users to discover our world-class catalogue of audio and video programmes. As a Software Engineer, you will play a key role in migrating from a legacy framework to a new pan-BBC architecture, directly impacting the digital experience of BBC users across the UK. This role offers the opportunity to work on the UK’s fastest-growing VOD platform within a creative and continuously learning environment. You will collaborate closely with project, product and technical leads to design and implement software that meets complex business needs, enforce best practices in code quality, testing and documentation, and participate actively in agile development methodologies including pairing, code reviews and continuous delivery. This position is part of the BBC Extend programme, supporting disabled people, and embraces flexible working arrangements to promote an inclusive workplace.
Experience
- Strong understanding of TypeScript, CSS, React and Node.js.
- Experience with testing frameworks such as Mocha and Sinon.
- Proven ability to write and maintain robust production software in fast-changing environments with rapid release cycles.
- Experience building and maintaining infrastructure on cloud platforms and resilient CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with pair programming, Test Driven Development (TDD), and agile processes.
- Experience working in professional software development environments on multiple projects, including testing, design and release.
- Desired: Experience developing on AWS, working with GraphQL and RESTful APIs, and out-of-hours/on-call engineering.
