About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the London Borough of Hounslow as a Principal Advisor – Speech and Language Therapist within the Specialist Practice and Advice Team. You will work alongside Educational Psychologists, Specialist Teachers, and other therapists as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing expert support to schools and early years settings across Hounslow. The role involves supporting schools to implement ordinarily available provision, delivering universal, targeted, and specialist support, and providing high-quality training and guidance on interventions and strategies to promote inclusion for children and young people with speech, language, communication, and interaction needs.

Key responsibilities include providing expert guidance to schools, delivering training and professional development, undertaking assessments and contributing to the Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA) process, delivering direct support and intervention, advising and training colleagues and professionals, fostering collaborative practices with local schools, liaising with multi-agency professionals and families, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of research and legislation to ensure best practice. You will also participate in developing resources to support schools and promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery.

You will be part of the Lifelong Learning, Skills & Employment division, contributing to a vision of a thriving community where residents benefit from lifelong learning opportunities. Reporting to the Senior Practitioner (Communication & Interaction), you will receive clinical supervision and access to training and CPD opportunities, with support to develop clinical interests and skills in training and coaching.

Experience
- Previous experience working at NHS Band 6 level or broadly equivalent
- Experience working with children and young people with a range of speech, language, communication, and interaction needs
- Understanding of how to support autistic children and young people with evidence-informed strategies
- Experience delivering direct support and intervention
- Experience delivering and embedding training for parents, professionals, and school staff
- Experience promoting inclusive practice within schools
- Understanding of ordinarily available provision and reasonable adjustments in education
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and with other professionals

Qualifications
- Qualified Speech and Language Therapist (BSc or MSc degree or equivalent)
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
