
Location
Sensory Support Service, Deaf Centre at Darrick Wood School, Lovibonds Avenue, Orpington BR6 8ER, London Borough of Bromley.
Hours
Part-time – 4 days per week, 0.8 FTE (equivalent to 24/30ths).
Salary
MPS/UP + 2 SEN allowance (maximum) for a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf.
About the Role
Bromley Sensory Support Service is seeking an enthusiastic, qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join the Deaf Centre at Darrick Wood School from September 2026. The role involves teaching and supporting pupils both within the Deaf Centre and across Darrick Wood School. This permanent position offers the opportunity to work in a supportive and inclusive environment, contributing to the educational development of deaf learners.
Applications are invited from Qualified Teachers of the Deaf who hold the mandatory qualification in Hearing Impairment/Teaching Deaf Learners and possess a minimum of BSL Level 1. Additional relevant qualifications are advantageous. For the right candidate, there is potential support to undertake the two-year part-time course to obtain the mandatory qualification in Teaching Deaf Learners, provided Qualified Teacher Status is already held.

Experience
Qualified Teacher Status with experience or training relevant to teaching deaf learners is required. Experience working with children with hearing impairments is desirable.
About you
Enthusiastic, committed, and passionate about supporting deaf pupils. Ability to work collaboratively within a team and adapt teaching methods to meet individual needs. A minimum of BSL Level 1 is essential. Additional relevant qualifications or experience in sensory support is advantageous.
Qualifications
Mandatory qualification in Hearing Impairment/Teaching Deaf Learners is required or willingness to undertake the two-year part-time course if already a Qualified Teacher. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
