St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research. In partnership with King’s College London we have dedicated clinical research facilities including an MHRA accredited Phase I clinical trials unit. Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our department as a Terminologies Analyst on a fixed term/secondment basis for 12 months. The post holder will be responsible for delivering use cases and supporting workflow and data quality improvement initiatives, pertaining to clinical coding through, through training and auditing of the MedCat Natural Language Processing (NLP) model. The post holder will also provide input into the design, testing, and implementation of new CogStack tools and workflows. This post is part of the Trust's CogStack Team, a specialised area within the AI, Data, and Innovation Team. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, including NLP developers and analysts, clinicians, operational managers, and the coding team. Our core goal is to improve the accuracy and reliability of the MedCat Model and develop a robust set of tools that continually provide value, enable the transformation of clinical coding processes, and enhance the depth and quality of data spanning across Snomed, ICD-10, and OPCS-4 terminologies. Interviews are provisionally set for 16 May (though may be subject to change). Main duties of the job To support delivery of CogStack/Medcat use cases, Activities include use of the NHS terminology browser, terminology binding and validation, NLP Model tuning through annotations, use of MedCat Annotations Tool, analysis of MedCat outputs, and training/supervision of clinical and non-clinical staff undertaking annotations projects. To lead on quality assurance and review of MedCat outputs. To be Subject Matter Expert (SME) and lead on NLP coding project development and support effective and efficient delivery of outputs. To support development and lead on delivery and audit processes of MedCat Projects and its outputs. To learn and perform the duties of a Senior Information Analyst, under the guidance and supervision of the NLP Workstream Manager (or delegated representative) in order to identify areas of priorities and where improvements can be made.
