About the Role
We are seeking an organised and self-motivated Traffic Engineer to join our Networks Team based in Hackney Central. Reporting to the Senior Engineer and working within a busy, friendly team, you will manage the full lifecycle of Permanent Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) ensuring compliance with the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Traffic Management Act 2004, and all relevant legislation and internal procedures. Your duties will include assessing and approving applications, reviewing plans and maps of restrictions, and coordinating with stakeholders such as internal officers, contractors, emergency services, and other relevant organisations. The role involves reviewing applications and plans that make permanent changes to the public highway.

Experience
Experience working in a similar fast-paced environment is advantageous. A good working knowledge of current legislation related to traffic regulation and management is essential.

About you
You will be a competent IT user with strong skills in Google Docs & Sheets, Microsoft Word and Excel, and mapping systems such as Traffweb or Park Map. Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach are required. You should be methodical, organised, and able to work effectively and efficiently within a busy team.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications or demonstrable experience in traffic engineering or a related field are desirable. A proactive attitude and commitment to the Council’s values of being Proud, Ambitious, Pioneering, Open, Proactive, and Inclusive are essential.
