About the Role
Bring your children’s social care knowledge to lead digital transformation and help shape better systems, processes and services for practitioners, children and families. This is an opportunity for an experienced children’s social worker to take their career in a new direction. You will lead the project management and delivery of digital transformation initiatives within the Children’s Operations and Programmes Directorate, managing cross-functional projects from inception through to completion. Your role will be the crucial link between frontline practice, data, and technical design, converting real-world social work understanding into robust digital project requirements.

You will work closely with frontline practitioners, digital partners, and internal and external stakeholders to understand service challenges, shape and test practical solutions, support implementation, evaluate impact, and identify emerging opportunities. You will co-produce service solutions alongside frontline teams, map interdependencies, and manage project benefits to improve practitioner and service-user experience and enable more efficient ways of working. Building consensus among diverse stakeholders during periods of change will be key.

This hybrid role involves working both behind the scenes with technical partners and directly with frontline practitioners, supporting the local community. Although technical expertise is not necessary, your social care experience will be essential to understand practice problems, ask insightful questions, shape requirements, test solutions for usefulness and safety, and facilitate effective collaboration between practitioners and technical colleagues.

For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification.

Requirements

Experience
You must have a Children’s Social Worker background with substantial working knowledge of statutory children's social care practice and a thorough understanding of contemporary children's policy and legislation. Proven experience of successfully leading transformation or service improvement initiatives within a large, complex organisation is essential. You will have contributed to change, service improvement, practice development, or project activity, such as improving processes, implementing new systems or practice models, testing new approaches, supporting colleagues through change, or contributing to wider improvement programmes.

About you
You demonstrate a genuine interest in how data, technology, and AI can reduce administrative burdens and optimise frontline workflows. You possess strong negotiation and lateral thinking skills to manage service risks, guide teams through ambiguity, and build inclusive, high-performing project environments. You are curious about service improvement, keen to develop skills in transformation, technology, data, and AI, and committed to supporting frontline practitioners and families.

Qualifications
While technical IT expertise is not required, your professional background as a Children’s Social Worker and your practical experience in social care are critical to this role. A commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to engage with new technologies and methodologies are expected.
