About the Role
Havering SEND and Alternative Provision Service is a multi-disciplinary team of Educational Psychologists, Advisory Teachers, Early Years specialists, Counsellors, Occupational Therapists and other specialist staff working collaboratively to support children and young people with SEND in schools and educational settings.

We are excited to offer the position of Advisory Teacher - Communication & Interaction (C&I) within the C&I Support Team. This team is expanding to enhance the support available to schools and settings as part of the Department for Education’s ‘Experts at Hand’ initiative.

The C&I Support Team includes Advisory Teachers and C&I Advisors who provide advice, support, training, and modelling of interventions and strategies. Our vision is to improve school practitioners’ understanding, confidence, and expertise to meet the needs of children and young people with communication and interaction needs.

The Advisory Teacher - C&I will support schools, colleges, and settings through Team Around the School and other meetings; collaborate closely with specialist staff including Educational Psychologists, therapists, and other professionals to embed the Team Around the School delivery model; professionally support C&I Advisors; contribute to multi-agency consultancy work with schools and parents; and offer a solution-focused, collaborative approach to ensure educational settings have the skills to effectively support children and young people’s engagement and access to learning.

Working within Havering’s Education Support Service offers a tailored induction package, business support to streamline reporting and diary systems, state-of-the-art AI tools to support productivity and wellbeing, regular supervision, protected CPD time, a talented and welcoming team of over 100 educational professionals, opportunities to work across mainstream, special schools and ARPs, flexible and hybrid working options, excellent IT equipment and support, and easily accessible workspaces with strong transport links including the Elizabeth Line.

An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.

This is a permanent position linked to government funding for Local Authorities under the Experts at Hand programme, currently committed until the end of August 2029.

Requirements

Experience
Experience working with children and young people with SEND, particularly in communication and interaction needs, is desirable. Experience of multi-agency working and providing consultancy and training to educational settings is advantageous.

You will be collaborative, solution-focused, and committed to improving outcomes for children and young people. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, and a passion for supporting schools and settings to develop practitioner skills.

Qualifications
Qualified teacher status is essential. Additional qualifications or experience in special educational needs, communication and interaction, or related areas will be beneficial.
