About the Role
Havering SEND and Alternative Provision Service is a multi-disciplinary team including Educational Psychologists, Advisory Teachers, Early Years specialists, Counsellors, Occupational Therapists and other specialist staff. The team works collaboratively to support children and young people with SEND across schools and educational settings.

We are excited to offer the position of Advisory Teacher - SEMH within the SEMH Support Team. This team is expanding to enhance the support available to schools and settings as part of the Department for Education’s ‘Experts at Hand’ initiative.

The SEMH Support Team comprises Advisory Teachers and SEMH Advisors who provide advice, support, training, and modelling of interventions and strategies. Our vision is to build school practitioners’ understanding, confidence, and expertise to meet the needs of children and young people with SEMH needs.

The Advisory Teacher - SEMH will:
- Support schools, colleges and settings through Team Around the School and other meetings
- Collaborate closely with specialist staff including Educational Psychologists, therapists, and other professionals to embed the Team Around the School delivery model
- Professionally support and deploy SEMH Advisors who assist Advisory Teachers
- Contribute to multi-agency consultancy with schools and parents to achieve goals outlined in support plans
- Offer a solution-focused, collaborative approach to ensure practitioners have the skills to effectively support children and young people’s engagement and access to learning

This is a permanent position linked to government funding through the Experts at Hand programme, currently committed until the end of August 2029.

Requirements

Experience
Experience working with children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs is highly desirable. Experience in multi-agency working and providing consultancy and training to educational settings is advantageous.

You will be collaborative, solution-focused and able to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with schools, parents, and professionals. A commitment to supporting inclusive education and improving outcomes for children and young people with SEMH needs is essential.

Qualifications
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is required. Relevant specialist training or qualifications in SEMH or related areas are desirable.
