About the Role
As an Anaesthetic Practitioner at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, you will play a vital role in facilitating the delivery of safe surgery in line with national pathways such as NatSSIPs2 and GPAS. You will prepare the anaesthetic room and equipment in a timely manner according to national and local guidelines, receive patients warmly, and undertake pre-anaesthesia and WHO checks. Working closely with anaesthetists, you will provide high-quality care, anticipate the needs of patients and the wider team, and actively work to minimise delays to ensure smooth theatre lists.
You will be responsible for maintaining IV cannulation skills across a wide patient age range and be proficient in managing anaesthetic emergencies. Your role includes managing controlled drugs and consumables safely and securely, ensuring all equipment is used and maintained according to Trust policies. You will promote a safe working environment by adhering to Infection Prevention and Control, Health and Safety, Information Governance, and Safeguarding policies.
In addition to clinical duties, you will act as a mentor and assessor to students and junior staff, assist with inductions and orientation, and contribute to the development and implementation of local policies. You will support a positive, inclusive, and supportive working environment and uphold the Trust’s PROUD values in all aspects of your work.
This role requires excellent communication skills to advocate for patients throughout their perioperative journey and to work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team. You will maintain professional registration, engage in continuous professional development, and ensure compliance with all relevant standards and policies. You will also be expected to manage stress effectively, understand the financial and environmental impact of your duties, and participate actively in team meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
This position demands flexibility, resilience, and a commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care in a dynamic clinical environment.
