About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a qualified Anatomical Pathology Technician with experience of working in a mortuary. The successful applicant will take personal responsibility for delivering the full range of mortuary activities.

You will be responsible for the admission, identification, and safe storage of deceased bodies for postmortem in accordance with service procedures. You will assist pathologists with postmortem examinations following protocols, including high-risk cases when required, and work out of hours on forensic cases as needed. This role operates under the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) License supporting the designated individual.

You will collaborate with community safety and emergency management teams to assist with the development and testing of emergency response plans. Additionally, you will facilitate viewings and police identifications in conjunction with the Coroner’s Office.

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Experience
Demonstrable experience working in a mortuary setting is essential. Experience with high-risk and forensic postmortems is welcomed.

About you
You will be resilient and able to manage difficult situations while handling sensitive information securely. You must be organised, able to prioritise conflicting demands, work both independently and as part of a team, and maintain a customer service-focused approach.

Qualifications
You must hold a Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technician or an equivalent APT qualification. You will have technical knowledge of mortuary policy, procedure, human anatomy, and a good understanding of health and safety legislation, working in compliance with SOP and HTA guidelines.
