About the Role
As an Anatomical Pathology Technologist (APT), you will undertake a full range of mortuary activities, including assisting with Coronial Post-Mortem Examinations under supervision where necessary. You will join a small, experienced team working in a busy, high-profile borough in central London, covering a variety of casework including community, hospital, and forensic cases. The mortuary also serves as a Designated Disaster Mortuary during mass fatality incidents within the coronial jurisdiction.

Your responsibilities will include assisting with the administrative arrangements for the reception of bodies into the mortuary, release for burial or cremation, and associated activities. You will facilitate and arrange formal viewings for the Coroner’s Service in accordance with local standard operating procedures. Working under the organisation’s Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licence, you will support the Designated Individual (DI) to ensure all activities meet legal and regulatory standards.

Maintaining excellent record keeping, compliance with health and safety policies, and staying up to date with relevant legislation are key priorities. You will participate in the out of hours services and on-call system if qualified. The team’s top priority is to treat deceased people with dignity and care while ensuring relatives are considered and supported at all times.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute meaningfully within a dedicated team of Anatomical Pathology Technologists in Westminster City Council.

Experience
Some mortuary casework experience is required, including facilitating post-mortem examinations. Experience completing eviscerations and reconstructions is essential. You should be able to write concise reports on casework, both written and computerised. Experience in planning, delivering, and coordinating workloads and projects is expected. You must be comfortable working unsupervised in accordance with agreed work programmes and committed to working safely at all times.

About you
You will have strong communication skills at all levels and maintain a sharp customer focus in all aspects of your work. You demonstrate professionalism, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to working with deceased individuals and their relatives.

Qualifications
You must hold an RSPH Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or be a trainee currently undertaking this qualification. Pre-2015 RSPH Certificate and Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology are also accepted.
