About the Role
The role of Graduate / Assistant Quantity Surveyor is to assist in the administration and management of costs and contracts relating to projects. This position involves supporting all aspects of work from the initial tender through to final account and project close out. The primary objective is to minimise costs and enhance value for money while achieving the required standards and quality. You will work under the close direction and supervision of a more senior quantity surveyor, gaining valuable experience across contract management, cost control, and project reporting.
Key responsibilities include preparing enquiries, analysing tenders, negotiating and managing allocated accounts including orders, payments, final accounts, and close outs in line with customer or company procedures. You will assist in preparing and agreeing applications for payment or payment certificates, play a key role in capturing and communicating change and risk on projects, and support the preparation of project control reporting such as cost/value reports, budgets, and forecasts. Additional duties involve record-keeping, meeting administration, supply chain performance reviews, contributing to value management/value engineering, and ensuring health, safety, and environmental risks are reported appropriately.
Experience
- Proactive in self-development and professional qualification progress
- Understanding or experience of business systems, spreadsheet development, cost analysis, programme evaluation and development, compensation event and/or variations assessment and evaluation
- Increasing knowledge of various contract forms and options
- Experience or appreciation of risk management processes for schedule and cost, including Earned Value Management

Qualifications
Essential:
- Holds an RICS or CICES accredited degree, or is enrolled on an accredited part-time postgraduate degree with relevant experience
Desirable:
- Enrolled and working towards full membership of either RICS or CICES
