About the Role

Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values.

Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. We are also proactive in bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity, and across the poverty divide.

As an Associate Content Designer in the Customer Experience team, you will work alongside colleagues to ensure residents can easily find accurate, useful information on the Council website.

Key responsibilities include:
- Responding to content design requests from across the organisation
- Ensuring content aligns with playbook guidelines
- Following content design guidelines and seeking advice from communities of practice
- Managing stakeholder relationships effectively
- Working as part of a multidisciplinary team to design user-centred content
- Contributing to the team roadmap to deliver a website that works for residents.

The Customer Experience team includes service designers, user researchers, product managers, data analysts, and software engineers. Since forming in 2021, the team has achieved significant milestones such as redesigning the rubbish and recycling section, migrating the website platform, improving digital access to Adult Social Care services, and conducting a discovery on digital accessibility across Council services.

Our vision is to help residents get the best possible services from the council by helping people find information, use services, and get support in ways that work for them. We manage hackney.gov.uk, partner with customer operations, collaborate across the Council, and follow government service manual methods.

We offer hybrid working with an expectation to attend the Hackney Service Centre offices at least two days per month, with flexibility to come in more frequently. Hybrid arrangements may evolve over time.
