About the Role
1 Year Fixed Term Contract / Secondment Opportunity.
The London Borough of Hackney is seeking a skilled Building Surveyor with Heritage/Listed building experience to join our Technical Services Team within Asset Management Delivery, Corporate Hard FM division. You will deliver an effective, reliable, customer-focused service to Council stakeholders and the wider community.
Supporting the Technical Services Team to deliver facilities management and minor projects, you will manage your own maintenance projects, advise on relevant repair issues and resolve issues in the most cost-effective way.
The role includes supervision and management of repair, renewal and project works to the property portfolio across the Borough. You will assist in undertaking condition surveys of a wide variety of non-residential properties, many of which are listed buildings.
You will help maintain robust programmes to ensure all Council properties comply with current statutory regulations.
Supporting the Strategic Property Services team, you will provide building survey and inspection advice related to contractual obligations and preparation of schedules of condition and dilapidations.
You will provide expert and technical advice on design, condition, capacity, suitability and statutory compliance monitoring of building installations, advising Council stakeholders. The role includes supporting the in-house Technical Services Manager and Senior Building Surveyor in managing the wider Technical Services team to ensure all Council buildings are maintained to agreed standards.
Using your building knowledge and high level of technical expertise, you will play a critical role in enabling Hackney Council to deliver its services and meet corporate objectives across the corporate estate, which comprises circa 600 properties including commercial offices, libraries, community halls, temporary accommodation and voluntary sector buildings.
You will prepare expert technical reports, appraisals, measurements, costings and estimates for various surveys including maintenance repairs, voids, disrepair and minor projects.
It is expected that you have sound and detailed knowledge of Building Regulations, heritage buildings, procurement routes, construction practices, building contracts and legal compliance.

Experience
Proven experience in building surveying with a focus on heritage and listed buildings.
Experience managing maintenance projects, repair, renewal and project works across diverse property portfolios.
Knowledge of Building Regulations, procurement routes, construction practices, building contracts and legal compliance.
About you
Skilled in condition surveys and statutory compliance monitoring.
Ability to provide expert technical advice and produce detailed reports, appraisals, measurements, costings and estimates.

Qualifications
Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Land Management, Surveying, Construction, Building Strategy or related field.
Professional membership or equivalent such as RICS, CIOB, APM, AFM or similar.
