About the Role
Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values. Hackney Council is passionate about our people and understands that richness of diversity is essential to provide the best possible services to our communities. This commitment is demonstrated through our council-wide Anti-Racism framework, formally adopted in February 2024.

Over the past twenty years, the Council has built first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We lead the way on equity work with a focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough, while also addressing fairness across gender, neurodiversity, and poverty divides.

We are committed to enabling independence and supporting residents to live safely in their own homes through our ‘Waiting Well’ approach, ensuring assessments lead to the best possible outcomes. Recent milestones include insourcing our Home Improvement Agency to minimise delays in home adaptations and redesigning our reablement service.

Our Occupational Therapy Team coordinates occupational therapy services, advising on equipment and adaptations for short-term interventions as well as complex specialist and long-term support. We manage Hackney’s Integrated Community Equipment Services (ICES), including Telecare, working across many partner agencies. Our team includes senior practitioners, occupational therapists, assistants, and Telecare officers.

This role offers the opportunity to join our dynamic Occupational Therapy and Sensory Service. It is a challenging position that puts the customer at the heart of service delivery, providing excellent occupational therapy interventions to promote independence in daily living activities with an ethos of co-production to give choice and control to residents.

You will carry a caseload, undertake assessments using a strengths-based approach, and recommend a range of interventions including educative techniques, equipment, adaptations, moving and handling, and Tech Enabled Living solutions. You will participate in the duty rota, assisting in triaging referrals and carrying out urgent visits.

We support residents to achieve their full potential and have a strong commitment to integrated working across health and social care through neighbourhood alignment. This enables close collaboration with social workers, health professionals, care navigators, and local assets to achieve holistic outcomes.

Our adult social care practice framework supports adapting interventions to individual needs. We seek a proactive, creative Occupational Therapist passionate about social care, with ambition and commitment to our values. If you have experience in social care settings and want to help drive our vision of a dynamic, outcome-based organisation using digital innovation and partnership working, we want to hear from you.

Hackney Adult Social Care is undergoing a significant transformation guided by principles of accessibility, prevention, personalization, quality, and safety. Our Practice Framework supports strengths-based, anti-racist, and trauma-informed care.

We offer a range of benefits including a strong focus on health and wellbeing, Employee Assistance Programme, Occupational Health support, discounted gym memberships, eye test vouchers, and comprehensive carer and family-friendly leave options.
