About the Role
Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values. Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. We are proactive in bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity, and across the poverty divide.
Hackney’s Locality Inclusion Teams (LIT) form our innovative “Experts at Hand” service, bringing together a dedicated multi-disciplinary network of Educational Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Specialist Teachers to transform local SEND provision and build capacity. Designed to shift the system away from reactive statutory assessments, our LIT workforce delivers early, proactive, and data-driven support directly to schools, early years settings, and community hubs across four borough localities. By offering readily accessible advice, targeted interventions, and strategic guidance, our “Experts at Hand” build workforce capacity, strengthen inclusive environments, and ensure children, young people, and their families receive seamless, high-quality support at the earliest possible stage.
The Experts at Hand Business Support Officer will provide essential operational and administrative support to Hackney’s four Locality Inclusion Teams (LITs) within the Integrated SEND Service. Reporting to the EAH Business Support Lead, you will serve as a multi-skilled first point of contact for schools, settings, and wider partners, managing shared inboxes and enquiries with professional customer service. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate databases, updating tracking systems, coordinating multi-disciplinary panel meetings, clerking, and collating service data to support monitoring and statutory returns. Operating in a fast-paced environment, you will work collaboratively across the team to streamline administrative workflows, ensure data quality, and support the successful delivery of early SEND intervention across the borough.
As a Council, our most outstanding asset is our staff, who are highly dedicated to serving our residents and committed to our organisational goals. We are working towards a vision to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud. We seek individuals who embody our “PROUD” values: Purpose and Respect, fostering belonging through active inclusion, kindness, and open dialogue; Ownership, championing proactive collaboration and accountability; and Unity and Diversity, working as one Council to break down silos and champion anti-racist behaviour.
Hackney Council is committed to eradicating discrimination on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. We also address social and economic disadvantage and welcome applications from disabled people and those interested in flexible working.
Experience
Experience in providing operational and administrative support in a fast-paced environment is desirable. Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams or educational settings is advantageous.
About you
You will be a highly organised, proactive, and professional individual with excellent communication and customer service skills. You should be able to manage multiple priorities, work collaboratively across teams, and maintain high standards of data quality and administrative accuracy. A commitment to the Council’s values of inclusion, equity, and anti-racism is essential.
Qualifications
Relevant administrative or business support qualifications are desirable but not essential. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work effectively within a diverse team are key.
