About the Role
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) works to prevent, prepare for, and respond to infectious diseases and environmental hazards to protect public health and build national health security. As a Biobank Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will provide vital technical and clerical support within the UKHSA Biobank facilities. Your responsibilities will include receipt, handling, and archiving of biological samples, preparation of samples and reagents following protocols, and preparing samples for transfer to testing laboratories. You will also perform general housekeeping tasks such as cleaning and disinfecting equipment and laboratory areas, maintain stock levels, and assist with equipment maintenance. Clerical duties including data entry and telephone enquiries will be part of your role. You will participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities to help maintain UKAS standards and assist the team in data analysis. Safe working practices in accordance with UKHSA safety policies are essential. The role involves moderate lifting for transporting waste material and patient samples for autoclaving. You may also be involved in audit processes and research projects as required. This role requires flexibility to accept reasonable alterations and additional tasks of a similar level as necessary.

Experience
Evidence of training and development within a relevant pathology discipline is essential. Keyboard skills and the ability to follow written protocols are required. Experience in working independently, organising and prioritising workload to meet deadlines is necessary. Ability to maintain confidentiality and trust is important.

Qualifications
GCSEs (or equivalent Level 2 qualifications) including English, Mathematics and Science, Grade 4/C or above are essential. Evidence of relevant training and development within pathology is required. Security clearance at Counter Terrorism Check level is mandatory before appointment.
