About the Role
Join Southwark Council’s bold, values-led Planning & Growth team and be part of one of London’s most ambitious regeneration programmes. As a Building Control Inspector, you will play a key role in shaping a borough undergoing significant development and innovation, including multi-billion-pound projects at Elephant and Castle and Canada Water, as well as the delivery of 11,000 new council homes.

You will act as a technical specialist providing expert advice to developers, architects, councillors, and internal stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include leading the processing and determination of building control applications for buildings up to 18m, overseeing the dangerous structures service, and ensuring compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022 and Fire Safety Act 2021 through rigorous inspection and audit processes.

In this role, you will collaborate with developers, engineers, statutory bodies, and key stakeholders such as the London Fire Brigade, Building Safety Regulator, and Department for Levelling Up. You will also contribute to quality assurance initiatives including ISO9001 implementation and support digital transformation efforts using systems like Uniform, SAP, and the Modern Data Platform.

Experience
- Proven track record managing applications and inspections for mid-rise residential and commercial buildings.
- Demonstrable experience in building control within a city or urban context, including large-scale residential and commercial projects.
- Deep understanding of statutory building control processes, legislation, and dangerous structures.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency with MS Office and building control systems.

About you
- Chartered professional with corporate membership of one or more of the following: RICS, CABE, IStructE, ICE, CIOB, IMechE, CIAT, RIBA, or IFE.
- Confident communicator able to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and provide trusted, pragmatic advice.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities with a sharp eye for detail and outcomes.

Qualifications
- Must hold a Class 2 professional Building Controls Qualification.
- Chartered membership as noted above is essential.
