About the Role
Help keep our estates clean, safe and welcoming – and make a visible difference every day. As a Caretaker at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC), you’ll play a vital part in looking after our estates – ensuring they’re well maintained and safe for the people who live there. You will be responsible for keeping communal areas clean and tidy, carrying out regular inspections, reporting and resolving issues, and making sure buildings remain safe and well looked after. You’ll also remove hazards and deal with anything that could pose a risk to residents.
This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety. You’ll work independently across one or more sites, taking ownership of your day-to-day tasks and knowing when to escalate issues needing extra support. Every building is a little different, so you’ll be assigned clear responsibilities for the one you’re working on. We provide the tools and training to help you feel confident in your role – including hands-on experience and in-house courses such as BICS training.
You’ll use technology to complete checks and record your work, with support always available when needed. You will be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents’ lives, with senior caretakers and office support close by. There is time set aside for breaks and shared lunches, fostering a friendly and supportive working environment.
Interviews will be held in person at World's End Estate week commencing 3rd August 2026. A basic DBS check is required for this role.
Experience
No formal qualifications or previous experience are required. What matters most is being active, reliable, and taking pride in a job well done.
About you
You will be physically capable of manual work such as lifting, bending and moving items, and comfortable being on your feet throughout the day. You should enjoy working with people, be friendly, calm and respectful, and always prioritise safety and care when helping residents or reporting concerns.
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are necessary. We value a positive attitude, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Ongoing training and development opportunities will be provided to support your growth and progression into more senior roles.
