£60,633 - £62,742 per annum (P07). Appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point for the grade unless matching current salary with evidential proof.

Lewisham Council, the UK’s first Borough of Sanctuary, is seeking a Corporate Health & Safety Manager to lead health, safety, wellbeing, and statutory compliance across the organisation. This key strategic role involves shaping and delivering a comprehensive corporate health and safety service, ensuring the Council meets all legal duties, codes of practice, and regulatory expectations across a diverse operational environment.
The postholder will lead the development and delivery of the Council’s Health and Safety policies and management system, oversee inspection regimes, manage risk assessment programmes, and ensure remedial actions are implemented effectively and on time. Leading audits to promote continuous improvement and a strong health and safety culture is a core responsibility.
As the Council’s principal expert advisor, you will provide trusted guidance on health, safety, wellbeing, and statutory compliance to senior leaders, managers, and Members. You will attend Council committees and deputise for the Head of Assurance when required. Leading a team of four corporate health and safety officers, you will support service delivery and drive continuous improvement in organisational performance.

Experience
Strong understanding of health, safety, welfare, and statutory requirements with experience applying these across large, complex organisations. Proven track record of managing teams and delivering results under pressure.

Confident and influential leader able to engage credibly with senior officers, Members, Trade Unions, and a wide range of stakeholders. Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships and drive organisational performance through professional expertise.
Qualifications
Professional qualifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH Diploma are essential to provide expert advice and leadership in health and safety management.
